"The World's Oldest Living Person title is much more than an award, it's a litmus test for the society in which that person lives."

P.W. Cooper

While the World's Oldest Living Person attracts a flurry of media, precious little attention is given to the totality of the life of the eldest human representative of our planet. In an age of sound bites, a life so extraordinary, so rich with memory and wisdom, is quite often all but overlooked. In the fixation on the number of years, lost is the beauty of the span of such a phenomenal lifetime, a last living look into our past and a glimpse of insight to our future.

Our mission is furthering the legacy of Besse Cooper through supporting supercentenarians. *While starting by preserving and protecting her legacy, by saving her historic farm from being destroyed (see The Farm), our vision is to advocate for supercentenarians, providing financial, legal, medical and public relations support for this underserved group. We are assembling a network of people from around the globe who are sensitive to the needs of this amazing group of elders, to honor them, by sharing their stories with the world, whether through images or words, in ways that are both dignified and respectful.

In July of 2014 the Besse Brown Cooper Foundation was officially established as a nonprofit organization, founded by Besse's grandson Paul Cooper, who is also in the process of writing a book about her life. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, all donations are tax-deductible (EIN : 46-3878242).
